Retreats
Prospect Street Writers House offers retreats from two to six nights for self-selected groups of up to eight in February, March, and April, as well as other times as our schedule permits. Retreats are perfect for workshops, reunions, or collaborations. Please inquire.
The length and timing of a retreat is up to you.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Except for a community meal at the end of each day, your time at Prospect Street is all yours. Retreats provide the rare opportunity for small groups to come together for collaboration, workshops, reunions, academic symposiums, and more.

Stays for groups of up to ten writers in Winter and Spring are perfect for workshops, collaborations, and reunions.
All retreat participants receive a private bedroom/studio with en suite private full bath, nightly house dinners prepared by chef Amy, and access to the suite kitchenettes, sitting rooms, library, and common spaces of the house, plus on-site laundry, wi-fi, and a network printer. Residents also enjoy access to the terraces, porches and gardens on the house grounds.
Prospect Street retreats offer groups of up to ten the rare opportunity to be on retreat together, ideal for workshops, collaboration, MFA reunions, faculty colleagues, and more.

Coming and Going
Try to time your arrival between 3 and 5pm and your departure before 11am.
Accessibility
The entry and entire first floor of Prospect Street are on grade, with an ADA accessible bedroom with ensuite bathroom in the Gray Suite. The second floor contains no programming space. Please alert us to any mobility issues.
Travel to Prospect Street
Prospect Street Writers House at 20 Prospect Street, North Bennington is easily accessible by car, with estimated travel times: Boston - 3½ hours, New York City - 4 hours, Montreal - 4 hours, and Philadelphia - 5+ hours.
Train from NYC – Book straight through to Bennington via Amtrak. This ticket involves changing to a bus at the Albany station. The trip last five hours.
Arriving at Albany airport? Regular bus service to Bennington can be booked through https://vttranslines.com. Just let us know ahead of time and we’ll pick you up at the Bennington bus station.
An Uber from Albany costs about $80. Ubers back to Albany on departure day are nearly impossible to book, however, there are local car services available. Book in advance.

Respect
At Prospect Street Writers House, no disrespect, harassment, or invasion of privacy of any writer or staff will be tolerated.
Security
Each resident receives the key code for the main entrance.
Quiet and Social Hours
During the hours of 9am to 5pm every day, and 10pm to 7am every night, the house is quiet. There are as many places in Prospect Street for casual conversations as there are places to read or write. This is not a monastery; there is sure to be modest hubbub in the common areas at most times, certainly at lunchtime. Evening readings or other optional organized gatherings are often available at the College.
WiFi and Printer
Dedicated WiFi is available throughout Prospect Street. A public printer can be found in the Donald Hall.
Dinner and Personal Food
Dinner for the entire community is served every evening between 6:00 and 6:30pm, including arrival days. Residents will be asked to share any allergies or dietary restrictions prior to arrival, and an effort will be made to accommodate them.
Residents are on their own for breakfast and lunch. There's a Hannafords supermarket a mile away and a deli in nearby North Bennington. These meals can be prepared in the suite kitchenettes which provide a mini-fridge, sink, toaster oven, hot plate, coffee maker, and teapot. All personal food should be removed from the suites upon departure.
Kitchen
The house kitchen is not available to individual residents or groups.
Linens
Simple housekeeping services and fresh linens & towels are available.
Alcohol & Smoking
Responsible alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis use is permitted, however, no smoking, incense, or open flame of any kind is permitted inside the Writers House. Smokers may use the smokers’ porch or the house grounds. Please don’t smoke by the main entrance or on the front porch.
Guests & Pets & Weapons
Overnight guests are not permitted. With the exception of licensed service animals, pets are not permitted within or on the grounds of PSWH. Weapons of any sort are not permitted.
Dismissal
Prospect Street Writers House reserves the right to dismiss anyone unable to abide by our community guidelines.
